Investment Team
The Fund's Investment Team has worked together for many
years and brings a diverse experience base to the management of the fund:
Robert
W. Shaw, Jr.
Dr. Shaw is President of Aretê Corporation and leads the Micro-Generation
Technology Fund investment team.
He has experience in both venture capital and consulting for the electric
utility industry. Prior to forming Aretê, Dr. Shaw was Senior Vice President
of Booz, Allen & Hamilton's Energy Division and a member of the firm's
Board of Directors. Earlier in his career, Dr. Shaw conducted materials
and electronics research at Bell Laboratories and the Cavendish Laboratory
in the U.K. Dr. Shaw serves as Chairman of Distributed Energy Systems
Corporation (DESC), and CTP Hydrogen Corporation, and as a Director of
H2Gen Innovations, Inc. He has a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford
University, an MPA from American University and MS and BEP degrees from
Cornell University.
Jerry
D. Geist
Mr. Geist served as CEO of Public Service of New Mexico, and is
one of the utility industry's most innovative thinkers. While serving
as Chairman of EEI, Mr. Geist anticipated the restructuring that is now
taking place in the industry and was one of the first to advocate disaggregation
into generation, transmission and distribution entities. Mr. Geist served
as founding chairman of the Utech Venture Capital Funds and has been actively
involved with Utech for its entire life. He has also been actively involved
with a number of entrepreneurial companies, is Chairman of Santa Fe Center
Enterprises, and serves on the Board of the Davis family of funds and
of CH2MHill. Mr. Geist has a BSEE degree from the University of Colorado
at Boulder.
Philip
B. Smith
Mr. Smith has extensive experience in venture capital and banking.
He served for five years as the founding President of Citicorp Venture
Capital, Ltd. Mr. Smith was a Vice President and Senior Credit Officer
of Citibank and later joined Irving Trust where he became Executive Vice
President responsible for the Worldwide Corporations Group. Later, Mr.
Smith served as a Managing Director with Prudential Bache and a General
Partner in Lawrence Venture Associates. He is currently Managing General
Partner with Private Equity Partnership and Vice Chairman of Laird &
Co. Mr. Smith received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BSE
degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University.
